Well, this will probably be my only post this week as I'll be out of the office most of the week. It's a good one though!
Here's an article about how to boost online website sales, it's not bad:
10 Quick Tips to Boost Site Sales
Small changes can often make a difference in whether a customer at your Web site purchases from you or hits the back button to look for a better alternative.
Let me highlight a few things and add in my 2 cents...
Yes, it is all about small things:
- Does your website look respectable or is it cluttered and pieced together?
- How many clicks does it take to check out?
- Are you consistent with terms like: account, cart, categories, secure and home page? Does the "home" link always go to your real home page or sometimes to the home page of the cart? Is there a link to the home page of your cart?
- Are you crosslinking / making internal links to products in your cart in the copy on on other pages or from other items?
- Study your competition.
- Use the right keywords.
- Have the right domain name and make sure it's registered for 5 years or more.
- Try using Google AdWords.
- Set up more links from other sites or directories to your site using keywords. Also focus on linking to specific landing pages within your website.
- Get feedback from your customers (duh).
- Check your stats!
Basically, if you keep tuning your website then it will be a success. The more attention it gets, the more sales you will make. Tweak it and tune it then once you're done, do it again.
The trick is to just do a little bit at time and it won't seem like a mountain of work. Take an hour and look at your stats. Take 2 hours and look at your links and site map, etc. If you don't have time, then it may be worth it to hire website professionals to do it for you or to at least give you a good evaluation.
