I can think of 2 domain names I bought recently that instantly got a good PageRank from Google. One has PR4 and the other has PR2 and they were just purchased this year. One didn't really have any content on it at all. Both of these domains were popular search phrases...

I feel like I'm giving away a secret here on how to get a good PageRank.

Each domain was a phrase that people would type into Google and see some good results. These are phrases that other businesses are trying to use to rank well with but none of them bought the domain name with that phrase in it plus ".com" which is really surprising.

As you've guessed, I'm not going to reveal the domain names I bought - sorry.

So what do you do with a domain like this? Well, if anything, what you should do is put up either a 1 or 5 page site that has some content and then primarily link over to your main website that has to do with these keywords / key phrases. Make the text real though - don't just jam the page full of keywords. If you've picked the correct domain, you'll see what I mean. I wouldn't move a site over to this new domain but I know of someone who did something like this a week or two ago (from my suggestion) and he did move his site. So, you can but you need a catch-all 301 redirect set up for sure.

I almost wrote in another hint of how I got this to work but decided not to since I want to buy a few more of these great domain names. So you'll have to figure out the rest on your own. If you think about it, I bet you can figure it out.

Some domain name buying basics:

  • Buy a .com
  • Make sure you spelled it right.
  • Buy the .org and .net if you want to protect your brand.
  • Register the domain for 5 years or more. Registering a domain for 10 years is best.
  • Don't use the parking page from the registrar where they get to run ads. Either set up your domain at WhyPark.com or host the page yourself. Put some content on it - your company name, address, email and phone at the least.
  • Buy your domain name at Webstix Domains.
