That's a phrase we came up with a while ago and it sort of stuck. Websites are definitely first impressions a lot of the time. If your site stinks... take it down. Seriously.
If I want to find out about a business, am I going to look them up in the phone book, get in the car and drive over to their building, walk in and start asking questions. Somtimes, but hardly ever. I'll look them up on the Web. If their site stinks, I might infer that they might care the same about the products and services that they offer as well. So your website should not be an afterthought, but instead be the first piece of marketing that you concentrate on.

If your Web site has five pages of content, you aren't ready for SEO. If your site has a lot of pages, but there's no content or the content is buried within an image (not actually text content), you aren't ready for SEO.
