Here's a tip that's great for communication. You've probably noticed how you sometimes later get an email from people who you decide to follow on Twitter. How do they do that? Well, it's easy and it's automated.

What you do is sign up for an account at TweetLater.com. They have a lot of cool services for Twitter - including the autoresponder and auto-following people who follow you.

Once you sign up, click on the "Accounts" button or the "Add Account" button to add a new account - yes, you can manage multiple Twitter accounts with just one login here, which is nice.

Then you enter the username and password for your Twiter account. Scroll down and select the "Automatically send a welcome message to new followers." checkbox where it says "Auto Welcome." Below that, you can put in your message. But what should this message say? Here are some ideas:

  • First, thank the person for the follow. That was nice of them.
  • Second, make the message about them. Offer them a service that will benefit them. Maybe you offer something free on your website or have a helpful newsletter or other service that you offer. For us, it's our free website analysis that we mention.
  • Think about making the message kind of fun instead of boring. Maybe make it seem like following you is the greatest thing ever or compliment their excellent decision making abilities. Be creative here and put it in a fun voice that fits your company culture.
  • Keep it short and to the point. Don't write a long paragraph because people won't read all of that.

Scroll down on the page and choose "Automatically follow people (new followers) who follow me from this point forward." where it says "Auto Follow" so that you also follow them. I like to also choose to unfollow them if they unfollow me to help guard against spammers. Click Save at the bottom of the page and you're set.

Just one more important piece in the Twitter marketing plan!
