I read an article today with some good ideas on how to do more with your website and web marketing with little to no cost. This is great for our clients, since most of them use our Content Management System (CMS) and can update their websites themselves.

Here are some points from that article, slightly modified:

More Low- or No-cost Marketing Strategies (www.sitepoint.com)

  • Create video tutorials or talks and post them on video-sharing sites.
  • Post screen shots of your work on photo-sharing sites.
  • Create an email newsletter.
  • Spend time understanding SEO.
  • Try asking for (and rewarding) referrals / testimonials.

Some more ideas I thought of:

  • Get on Facebook or LinkedIn and post blog entries from your website on Facebook for your friends to see.
  • Don't have a blog? Do the very least and sign up at Blogger or Wordpress.org.
  • Join Delicious and build up some bookmarks - just don't list your site but add in others.
  • Email your friends with websites and ask them to link to your website.
  • Give something away for free on your website but ask people for their email address.

I really like the video tutorials idea. I might try that with our CMS and see what happens.
