Twitter BirdI know it's a Friday right now but I thought of a good goal for everyone to do next week!

With your Twitter account in the next week, find 50-100 people to follow. Here's how to do it...

  1. Look at who is following you and follow them.
  2. Look at who is following you and click on their profile.
  3. Look at who they are following and find some more people to follow.
  4. Rinse and repeat.
Set aside just 15 minutes each day to do this and you'll reach that goal easily. And make sure you're tweeting. Find some interesting websites that have to do with your company and post tweets with links, etc. Say something - communicate!

Throw in some personal things, too (for sure). In fact, maybe put in more personal things than business things but don't talk about yourself too much. It's cool to put in fun things but try to direct your message to your audience and have the attitude that you're helping them and they will benefit from what you're posting. Do this and you'll see people automatically following you ("winner, winner, chicken dinner!").

Some tips on following people on Twitter:

  • If they haven't tweeted anything yet, skip them.
  • If they are not following anyone yet, skip them.
  • If they haven't tweeted in 3 weeks, skip them.
  • If all they send out is spam and automated kinds of messages, skip them.
  • On people you may skip, feel free to look at who is following them or who they follow.
  • If it's a hot girl posting links to pictures of herself, skip her - it's actually some dude with a website. :-)

Look at these rules about skipping people and make sure you're not someone that would get skipped! :-)

Don't be afraid to follow someone. The right people can post some very interesting things that can really help a small business owner like goods and services that you didn't know were out there. Again... so in turn, make sure you're doing the same thing.
