Website Health?
Yes, website health!
I found a great article today about how to use Google Webmaster Tools (GWT). It walks you through setting it up and using it - check it out:
Google Webmaster Tools: An Overview (searchenginewatch.com)
Now, for the rest of you that look at that and are lost, read on! :-)
I said that because maybe you know about Google Webmaster Tools and maybe you have it set up but you really don't know what it's for or what to do with it. Hey, you're trying to run your business and not mess with all this "website stuff," right? There are a lot of terms in there that you might not understand or even want to understand. Is that you? If that's you, then you'll be glad you found Webstix!
Website Health Checkup
Years ago, there was no Google Webmaster Tools. It didn't exists. It kind of didn't need to. Today, we're glad it's there. Instead of just wondering why a website was dropped from rankings or why something doesn't seem right, we have a place to go. It's a place to kind of communicate with Google on a technical level. Often, people will come to us with some website problems and we'll find out that they don't even have this set up. When we do set it up (which isn't too difficult), we find out what's going on and what things to fix. What Google mentions there makes perfect sense to us.
Using this tool is a great place to first look in order to determine the health of a website. If you don't have it set up, you have to check your website error logs and other things and then just sort of guess. When you guess, you might be wrong and it's just too time consuming.
GWT is free, so why not set it up?
SEO Benefits
If you are first just starting to try to rank your website higher in the search engines, then GWT is great to look at. You can see which terms your website is ranking for but might not be getting clicks on yet. This is very valuable information. Use it. If you don't know how, then ask us and we can help - we'd love it.
When Should You Start Working on SEO?
Yesterday. No wait... 3 months ago. That's when your competition started working on SEO and they're ahead of you. Why give them that advantage any longer?
