Well, it's December. It's winter-like weather here in Wisconsin even though it's not officially winter yet. People are busy getting ready for Christmas (I've got a party this Saturday already) and businesses are thinking about the end of the year spending. Some businesses need to either spend their budget in order to get more for next year and others want to show as little profit as possible for tax reasons.
So where do you spend it?
You already know what my answer to that is (spend it on your website), so here are some things that can be done to really almost any website - if we made it or not:
- Do some Search Engine Optimization (SEO). If you get ranked higher in search engine results, your website will get more traffic and this should boost sales if you have a good website.
- Renew your domain name. Google is an official ICANN domain name registrar but they don't sell domain registrations. They do it just to have direct access to that database, so everyone thinks that they're using that data for their search engine results. It's best to have your domain names registered for 5 years or more. Websites with domain names that are registered longer look like they will be around for a while and Google wants to give people the best results, so they'll rank those sites higher.
- Add both HTML and XML site maps to your website so that people and search engines know about every page on your website.
- Buy some incoming links from directories to increase your ranking and traffic (I've put links to good directory websites here).
- Add Google Analytics to your website to get better stats. You can do this yourself or have a company like Webstix do website maintenance for you.
- Change a few images and spruce up your website.
- Convert your URLs to search engine friendly URLs.
So those are some simple things that can be done if you need to spend the money or not. These things will keep your website healthy and working well for you.
