Here is the new article:
The article lists things like:
- Claiming your Google Maps listing
- Set up Google Alerts (I've done this a while back, it's a good tip)
- Set up Google Analytics
- Get directory listings
- Check your website's contact information
- Review your autoresponders
- Update your website's copyright and privacy policy
- Test your outgoing links as they may have changed
And yet some more to-do items:
- Make sure your domain name(s) is up to date and registered for the next 5 years.
- Make sure contact forms on your website are working properly.
- Make sure the search function on your website is working correctly and giving good results.
- Make sure you have a backup of your website.
- Update old website content.
- Make sure your website software is up to date (Wordpress, Joomla, OS Commerce, etc.)
- Change your passwords.
Ok, so I just piled about a few dozen things on your already huge to-do list. Sorry. You've got to do it though. If people see an outdated website, they may just leave thinking that they can't trust any of the information on it.
Of course, we're here to help - even if you're not our client. We're actually ramping up our website maintenance department and have some cool changes coming shortly. We're excited.
Happy New Year!
