All About DNS If Webstix is going to take over the hosting of your website (and possibly email), then the best course of action is to have us host your DNS (domain name service) as well (look up DNS on Wikipedia to find out more about what it is – in short, it translates domain …
Domain Name Transfer One issue that we see come up from time to time is when one of our clients tries to switch their hosting to us and then they find that they actually do not have their domain name registered in their name. What happened was, their old website designer registered the domain in …
You may see an email with this subject line come from your domain name registrar. They have to send the domain owner an email like this once a year to make sure that the contact information on the domain name is current. Here’s a line from one of these emails:
"ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) annually requires that all accredited registrars ask their domain administrators/registrants to review domain name contact data and make any changes necessary to ensure accuracy."
If your contact information hasn’t changed in a while, then you can probably ignore this email. It is important, however, that this contact info is up to date.
If you want to check it or make a change, you can click on the link in the email and follow the instructions and update the account information if you feel anything should be changed. It is important, at a minimum, that the email addresses for this account are current and functioning. Meaning, at some point, this domain name will expire and, at that time, you will receive a notification email to renew. It’s important that this email can be received by you. If not, you may forget to renew the domain name and then both your website and email may (will) go down and not function. We see this happen to clients from time to time – don’t be one of those people. 🙂
You are the owner of this domain name and it’s important that you are the one in control of this domain for privacy and ownership reason. Meaning, Webstix might work on your website just like a mechanic would work on your automobile. However, we don’t technically “own” your domain name just like you would not register the title to your automobile in the name of your mechanic. Some clients list us as the Technical Contact on the domain, which is a good idea because we can also be aware that the domain name may be expiring and can help watch that the domain renewal gets done.
You are ultimately responsible for keeping this account up to date and paid for.
